Ms. Katie Steimel is an Associate Risk Assessment Scientist with over five years of experience in exposure assessment, risk assessment, and toxicology. She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences from University of California Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Occidental College in Los Angeles, California. Her primary training and areas of expertise include toxicology, human health exposure and risk assessment, product safety, and regulatory compliance.

 Ms. Steimel has experience conducting exposure and risk assessments for various substances including asbestos, talc, benzene, formaldehyde, metals, bisphenol A, flavoring ingredients, phthalates, and other ingredients in consumer products. Additionally, she has experience providing technical support to expert witnesses in toxic tort litigation matters and evaluating regulations for compliance with product safety laws (e.g. California Proposition 65). Her graduate research evaluated the pathway in which BPA induces germline toxicity through the alteration of mitochondrial cholesterol transport in C. elegans.
