Kathy Chan is a Risk Assessment Scientist with approximately seven years of experience in exposure and risk assessment. She holds a B.S. in public health with a concentration in nutritional biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her training and areas of expertise include exposure modeling and assessment, human health risk assessment, environmental and occupational health regulation and law, occupational health and safety, and product stewardship.

Kathy’s project work has included qualitative and quantitative characterizations of occupational, consumer, and environmental exposures to physical and chemical agents across various products and settings, including but not limited to: asbestos, cosmetic talc, benzene, petroleum-based solvents, fuels, chlorinated solvents, diacetyl and related food flavoring compounds, respirable silica, heavy metals, and phthalates. Kathy’s current research interests include development and validation of quantitative exposure models, application of exposure and risk assessment methods to safety and stewardship practices, and improvements to risk communication for workers and communities.
